3/17/2009 Puerto Viejo/Cariblue, Cahuita National Park snorkeling tour, pool, dinner at Maxis/Manzanillo

Breakfast is buffet.  I have scrambled eggs with ham, toast, fruit-orange slices/watermelon, passion fruit juice.  Back to our room for showers.  Pick up 2 pool towels and packed a bag for our excursion today.  We are picked up at 8:30 am by Puerto Viejo Adventures.  Our driver is Ronnie and our guide is Rene.  We are going to Cahuita National Park for snorkeling and hiking.  Didn't see much snorkeling but it was nice being in the boat out on the water.  Water was a bit rough for me as I'm not a swimmer.  It's a beautiful day-sunny and hot.

The boat drops us off and we wade to shore.  Rene tells us to keep a firm grip on our belongings.  We sit for a while on the picnic tables/benches set up in the area.  We have water, fruit juice and some fruit to snack on.  Before you can blink there are several white faced monkeys all over the place.  One monkey grabs a bag and a tug of war ensues between the monkey and this lady.  The monkey eventually gave up.  It really was funny to watch this play out!  Hiking we see 2 and 3 toed sloths, howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, eye lash viper snake, raccoon, crab, fire ants, leaf cutter ants.

We finally reach this lovely beach area where we have time for a swim.  The water is warm and it's not too rough.  I enjoyed myself but I stayed in the shallow area.

Then we continue to hike to where we leave the park and head back to our hotel.  There's a stand where I bought 4 postcards for $1.00 USD.  Pool time!  So nice.

We decide to drive to Manzanillo to a place called Maxis for dinner.  It's dusk and some kids are playing soccer on the beach.  We have a nice table with a view of the beach.  We both get the fish filet which comes with rice and beans, grilled vegetables, salad.  I had fresa to drink and Richard had Imperial beer-what else!  It was delicious.  Cost 16482 colones without tip-around $34.00 USD.
