3/28/2009 Driving to Manuel Antonio, Rio Tarcoles, Casistas Eclipse, dinner at Gato Negro

This was the second night in a row where I didn't sleep well.  Our last breakfast here and we should try something different.  Richard goes for the Americana-2 fried eggs, ham, toast, juice, and coffee.  I do the pancakes with fruit, juice, and coffee.  Delicious.  Best yet.  Check out fine and we're off to Manuel Antonio.  Ready to explore the central Pacific area of Costa Rica known for beaches, national parks, lots of wildlife.

It's a long drive with road construction delays.  On the side of the road I see a stand with pottery.  Ceramics in pre Columbian style.  Guaitil pottery is crafted in the traditional way.  Red clay dug from nearby riverbanks and I want to buy one.  I love the larger pieces but I settle on something much smaller and easier to take back home.  The craftsmanship is wonderful and I just love my little pot that I chose.  Cost 2000 colones.  A bargain.

Along the route we see the Puente La Amistad de Taiwan/Friendship with Taiwan Bridge.  A dramatic suspension bridge over the Rio Tempisque.  It links Nicoya to the Pan-Am Highway.  We stop at a gas station to buy snacks and 2 bottles of water.  Total cost 3505 colones.

Our route also takes us to the Rio Tarcoles.  Stopping the car we are able to see several crocodiles.  Cool.  Our drive to San Antonio is very scenic and we stop several times to admire the scenery/surroundings and take some pictures.

We arrive at Casitas Eclipse around 4:00 pm.  We'll spend 3 nights here.  At check in we're upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with an ocean view and a working kitchen.  Nice patio.  Across the street is a restaurant with a plane out front.

It's been a long day of driving so we decide to just have dinner at the restaurant attached to where we are staying-Gato Negro.  I had grilled chicken tenderloin pieces with mashed potatoes and vegetables of red pepper/cauliflower/onions/carrots.  Richard had the gilled salmon with mashed potties and the same vegetables.  Imperial beer for him but just water for me.  Cost without tip was 13277 colones/$25.06 USD.

Tomorrow Richard has a dive scheduled so he's hyped!  I plan to be lazy by the pool.
