Breakfast buffet. I'm too nervous to eat much as we are going to do zip lining today and it was not fun for me in La Fortuna a few days ago. Couldn't finish my cheese/tomato/habanero pepper omelet. Fruit-pineapple and watermelon. Orange juice, coffee. Richard had cereal, yogurt, and fruit.
When I booked our Costa Rica trip with CentralAmerica.com I added several excursions. Today is one of them. We are picked up at 7:30 am by
Selvatura.
Canopy (zip lining) and walkways tour. The
Canopy Tour consists of 15 cables and 18 platforms and will take 2 1/2-3 hours. I'm so apprehensive! We arrive 8:00 am. We brought our rain ponchos as the cloud forest is misty and we put them on. Get our zip lining gear on. Then we're told we can zip line solo or go taxi with a guide who will do all the work to get from one platform to the other. I am so happy. I and at least one other in our group chooses the taxi option. As we're zip lining through the cloud forest my guy is swinging us around and pointing out different sights for me to see. Much better experience. I did do one line by myself and it was fine. My confidence was back. At the end there is what's called a "Tarzan" swing-simply a long piece of rope that you grab and your momentum makes it swing back and forth. I did it first and it was a lot of fun!

Next is the
Cloud Forest Treetop Walkways which we have chosen to do self guided. There is a 1.9 mile trail that goes through the forest. Along the trails are 8 suspension bridges. Lengths of the bridges vary between150' to 510'. The heights of the bridges are between 36' and 180' The tour should take around 2 hours. Saw butterflies and a few birds but the scenery around us was peaceful and so pretty. At 2:00 pm we meet to return to our hotel.

From the balcony of our room I see some neat birds and some kind of mammal. I wish I was more knowledgable about the birds in Costa Rica. Wish the pool was available!

After a relaxing bubble bath we decide to visit
Ranario. The Frog Pond of Monteverde displays about 20 species of frogs and amphibians as well as snakes, salamanders, and lizards. Admission for the 2 of us was 11400 colones-very inexpensive. I don't have any pictures of the frogs, etc. so I'm thinking maybe pictures weren't allowed? Worth the time.

Dinner is at
Morpho's. Butterflies hanging from the ceiling as decoration. This place was recommended to us by our daughter's friends who did a trip to Costa Rica before us. I ordered the Morpho's hamburger (advice from same friends). It was huge with 2 beef patties, melted cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, cucumber, avocado. I had coffee and strawberry ice cream. Richard had the chicken tico plate which is grilled chicken/rice/grilled vegetables/salad. Imperial beer and coffee ice cream. The place was packed-obviously very popular. Cost without tip 17, 097 colones/around $34.00USD.

It's been a wonderful day. Tomorrow we leave this area of Costa Rica to head to
Ocotal Beach where Richard will scuba dive. He's looking forward to that.
