3/20/2009 La Fortuna/Arenal Springs, excursion with Sky Adventures, dinner Don Rufinos

Buffet breakfast.  Today is our zip lining tour.  I booked Sky Adventures for sky tram/sky trek.  We are picked up at 8:30 am.  This is supposed to take 3 hours.  Driving we see a coati by the road.  When we arrive we take the sky tram to reach the top of the Arenal reserve.  It's very scenic.

Coati

Then we are ready to do the zip lining.  Neither one of us has ever done this before.   This is 8 cross-sectional cables with a total length of almost 2 miles with distances from 100 to 2460' and a maximum height of 660' which puts you above the treetops and provides a panoramic view of the Arena Volcano and lake.  We're given safety instructions and put on the supplied gear.  The sections go from one platform to the next.  We're told that you can change your mind not to continue when you reach platform #2.  After that there's no turning back!  I do #1, #2, and #3 just fine.  But at #4 I run into problems  and don't make it all the way to the platform.  As instructed I swing myself around and then go hand over hand to get me to the platform.  Not fun.  #5 is ok.  #6 same problem and I need to do the hand over hand but I'm further away from the platform and this is tiring.  #7 I'm stuck again but this time one of the guides comes out to help bring me in to the platform.  #8 final is ok, thank goodness!  So glad this is over.  I was so nervous doing this I never got to see the touted panoramic views or take any pictures!  I did buy souvenir pictures of us zip lining for $20.00 USD.

Getting ready to send me off!

Back at our hotel lots of pool time makes me feel better.  I also walk around the hotel grounds taking in all the beautiful flowers.

Driving we stop at the supermarket for snacks, pepsi, aloe vera lotion.  Cost 4926 colones.  Then another stop at Tabacon Resort.  I buy a Pura Vida T shirt, postcard,  candy, and a Costa Rica pin which is of the red eye frog/gaudy leaf frog.  Cost $23.98 USD.

Dinner Don Rufinos.  We both had the Don Carlos' pasta.  Imperial, fresa.  Cost 13400 colones/$24.36 USD.

We have had a nice time with our 3 nights here.  Next stop-Monteverde.
