3/30/2009 Manuel Antonio, Calypso Cruise

It is a very early morning for us.  Part of our trip with CentralAmerica.com had several excursions.  We are doing one of them today.  Catamaran Tortuga Island cruise with Calypso Cruises.  We are to meet at the Best Western in Jaco at 7:10 am so we have to drive there.  We leave at 4:30 am for Jaco.  We arrived much too early but I'm feeling sick-nauseous.  Eventually I feel better and we leave to go to Puntarenas along with others on a nice A/C coach.  We stop along the way by the bridge at Rio Tarcoles for a tico breakfast.  I only have banana, watermelon, and coffee.  I pass on the scrambled eggs, gallo pinto/rice and beans.  Don't want to take any chances getting sick again.

We arrived in Puntarenas to board the catamaran Manta Ray.  This catamaran has fresh water showers and 2 small deck pools.  We will sail in the Gulf of Nicoya.  There's around 30 of us.  Our guide is Victor who gives us information about the islands we see and pass.  San Lucas Island, Guayabo Island, Gitano Island, Cedros Island, Jesuita Island, Negritos Island, and last Tortuga Island.  We are given Costa Rican coffee, fresh tropical fruits, fruit juice, and sodas as we sail.

Arriving at Tortuga Island there's a nice sandy beach.  Postcard pretty.  Richard and I-along with others-decide to go snorkeling.  Some are swimming.  Other options available are kayaks, paddle boats, banana boat ride, canopy/zip line for extra cost.  Richard is a strong swimmer so he went around the rocks snorkeling while I stayed more in the calm shallows.  Of course when he returned he said he saw lots of fish.

Lunch.  Ceviche appetizer.  Salad bar-mixed greens with creamy vinaigrette dressing; pasta primavera salad; cucumber, dill and sour cream salad; carrot and raisin salad with orange dressing.  Our main course is BBQ grilled chicken breast with a tropical sauce and covered with fresh grated coconut.  Steamed rice, toasted plantains.  A nice chilled glass of white wine.  Dessert is pina colada cake.  Coffee.  We listen to music being played for us.  I'm so glad we did this.

Exploring I saw peccaries, turkey, rooster, birds.  There's a scarlet macaw at the gift shop.  As much as we've enjoyed our time here we have to leave.

Leaving Tortuga Island

Lovely cruise back.  Sunset.  Puntarenas.  The coach drops us off at the Best Western in Jaco.  We drive back to our hotel in Manuel Antonio but make a stop at a grocery store.  We bought drinks and snacks.  Cost 3080 colones.  Got back to our hotel around 9:00 pm.

A long but happy day.  Tomorrow we will fly to Osa Peninsula so we pack for our Sansa flight.  We need to distribute the weight.
