3/18/2009 Playa Cocoles, drive to La Fortuna, Arenal Springs, dinner at Lava Lounge

We drive a short way to Playa Cocoles where I admire the beach and take pictures.  Surfers are out.  Then we go to Pan Pay in Puerto Viejo for breakfast.  I had an apple pastry, 2 fried eggs, toast, coffee.  Richard had scrambled eggs with vegetables, toast, coffee.  Cost without tip 3900 colones.  While here I took pictures of the beach by Pan Pay-Parquecito Cove.  Went back to Cariblue to check out.  Our stay here was pleasant but now it's time to go to the northern zone of Costa Rica.

We make some shopping stops in Puerto Viejo.  A small village but this area is known for its good surfing beaches.  Unfortunately I couldn't find anything to fit!  But it was nice to just browse.  I also make Richard stop at some pretty beaches for my picture taking needs!  Horseback riding on the beach.  Something I wish we had done.

We are on our way to La Fortuna, the town near the Arenal Volcano.  Nice scenery on the way.  Long drive.  While driving we see a cruise ship in Limon.  Stopped for gas 10000 colones.  Also bought some bottles of water and a candy bar-Snickers!

We drive through the town of La Fortuna to get to our hotel . Arenal Springs.  We arrived at 5:30 pm.  Getting dark.  Check in is smooth and we have bungalow #602.  We're told we can park our car right in front of our bungalow which is great.  Our room is large with 2 queen beds, a beautiful bathroom.  We also have a view of Arenal Volcano from our room and the porch.

For dinner we decided to drive back to town.  Lava Lounge.  Very popular-busy.  We both had the yellow fin tuna special with french fries, grilled carrots and squash.  Sangria for me and Imperial for Richard.  Dessert is bread pudding with nuts and raisins.  Served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.  Cost without tip was $45.92 USD.   Great food and great service.  A super way to end the day!
